Half the fun of the trip is looking out for whales and being the first to say “I see one!”
What to look out for
Start by carefully scanning back and forth over the water to the horizon. Look for things that don’t belong. Watch for blows, backs, dorsal fins or tails at the surface. Splashing in the distance often indicates whale activity. Also, watch for groups of seabirds who may be feeding above whales.
Once whales are located, the boat will slow down and get into position to watch them. It is important to note that we operate under strict whale watching guidelines set out by the Department of Environmental Affairs and SABBWWA to keep the whales, and dolphins, safe!
